SaferSkin™

Enabling Knowledge-based Skincare Safety Assessment

For decades, animal testing was the only method for testing the potential for skin sensitisation. Today, Integrated Testing Strategies (ITS) combining in silico computer models and in vitro data offer a much better way. Today, by combining in silico and in vitro technology, you can weed out risks before a compound reaches consumers. 

 

Edelweiss Connect’s SaferSkin™ app industrializes the ITS developed at Procter & Gamble (P&G) and other large consumer product companies for skin sensitisation. In keeping with Edelweiss Connect’s track record in collaborative scientific communities, we initially worked with P&G to make their approach, designed to respond to that company’s particular needs, relevant to all researchers. 

 

The app can be used for: 

 

  • Hazard identification, classification, and labeling under the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) scheme (UN 2013)

  • Quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of skin sensitisation

  • Development of an efficient testing strategy, as a decision strategy tool

 

Main features:

 

  • Comparison of different approaches: e.g., Bayesian Network, ‘2 out of 3 weight of evidence’, OECD 497, multiple linear regression, category prediction with confidence levels 

  • Simple to use interface 

  • Single compound input submission - entered as SMILES or drawn 

  • Physical properties calculated LLNA pEC3 & EC3 values from 50-90th percentile confidence

 

SaferSkin 2.0 

 

SaferSkin 2.0 is the latest version of our in silico application released in 2024, offering a software for comparing and reporting the results of models and defined approaches for skin sensitization. This innovative tool supports risk assessment and regulatory compliance.
